For this 3rd week of Throw Back Tuesday, we will be going back to poetry. This poem written around 1999 was centered on people that are full of themselves (in French « vantard »). In your high school memories, I am sure you all have that fancy girl or guy around us, high school celebrity which everyone knows and talks about. They felt like they were the center of the world, and more funny, they were often treated by others (classmates and family) like centers of the world. TV Shows and books such as the « Gossip Girl » or « Pretty Little Liars » series, gives us a glimpse of the lives and turmoil of those characters.
This poem was inspired by one of these persons. At the time, I really tried to imagine what it would be like living the life of this fancy girl and how she really felt. The tone is openly ironic so please I hope you will LAUGHT OUT LOUD. In any case, enjoy reading and share your experience. Any superstar in your high school?
Paroles de vantarde
De l’Ouest à l’Est,
Du Nord au Sud,
Tout le monde me connaît,
Car je ne passe point inaperçue.
Je suis si belle,
Qu’on est obligé de me voir,
La vie sans moi,
Serait une absurdité,
Car je suis absolue nécessité.
Je ne sais pour quelle raison,
Dirait-on,
Que la solitude m’est insupportable,
Cela est tout à fait normal,
Aimez-vous être seul?
Certains disent que je suis une gêne,
Mais qu’ils parlent pour eux,
Car je ne vois pas,
Comment un ange pourrait l’être.
Et c’est ainsi,
Que je vis,
Haïe de tous,
Pour tout.
